It’s hard to believe summer–that Edmonton ‘Unobtanium'–is half over. Or for the optimists among us, half begun.
Of course, our summers are longer than we give credit for. It could hit plus 27 many days in September. It may not snow until after Halloween. But still. If we cannot wallow here in the frozen north, what have we got?
I’m here to save you from aimless wallowing. To take my big blogging hand and point you in five wonderful directions–towards art, faith, hope and love–this Friday.

Maybe you’re like me. You know what eCommerce is, but you don’t understand enough about how it works. You do know enough to know what can go wrong. Credit card data and privacy concerns. Complicated systems trying to play nice together. Expensive fees. You see why I worry?
Worried. Past tense. Squarespace has made it possible for me to embrace eCommerce and sleep at night. That’s remarkable.

One more ArtLuck before we hit the summer months for rest. It turns out to be a doozy.
Pam shows up early to help. We bring out enough chairs, we think. Then people begin to arrive and we find out we were wrong. In the best way. We've underestimated.

I tell her about a walk I remember where she and her husband confided in me and my wife about their doubts. Their open wounds. Their very human selves. I tell her it was the first time I had heard this vulnerability from older people I respected. People I viewed as impenetrable. A viel was lifted that day. If I remember right, we were literally crossing a bridge at the time. Stopped in the middle, watching water trickle over rocks below.
It is just then, as we share little stories we’ve both heard before, that the real loss hits me.

Two kids in tow, I started with a promise. For every artist I stopped to talk to, I would give the kids $1 in treats at the end of our trek. At the start this applied only to artists I already knew. We modded the rules quickly to include conversations of 5 mintues or longer with new connections.
By 5 PM, I was buying the kids supper. It was well worth it. I collected many conversations, and formiddable stack of business cards too.

Next week I will resume Website Wednesdays - offering step by step tutorials to fix this problem. I want every artist I know to have a great website that shows off the best of who they are. I want that for you and I believe it’s possible.
In the meantime, I want to know what is getting in your way.
