Eternal Presence: Journey into the Mind, a film by BEHDAD ESFAHBOD & ASAL ANDARZIPOUR

“Eternal Presence: Journey into the Mind”, is based on the ongoing struggles of the filmmakers and a generation. This short film was born out of a recursive, COVID quarantine in November 2020 during a period of COVID-19 lockdown when Behdad turned to creating for healing, Asal faced existential questions, and both were exploring the psyche and the fluid nature of identity.

The film follows a girl born during the Iranian 1979 revolution, growing up amidst war and global events, leading to her breakdown and subsequent healing through self-care and art. Although informed by the filmmakers' lived experiences in specific times and spaces, Eternal Presence engages the audience with the essential matters of life and death. All human beings go through a universal story of intergenerational trauma manifested in different forms, and yet the healing power of art is irreplaceable.

Content advisory: Contains nudity & violence / war.
